The traditional charcoal burning at Bramboden in the Lucerne Entlebuch is unique in Europe. The smoking piles, the work with the fire, the hidden process, the alchemical-like transformation of wood into coal - all of this still exudes something magical to this day. Over a period of five years, Robert Müller accompanied the charcoal burners of Bramboden in their work. The result is a film that gives an insight into the world of the charcoal burners from an inside perspective. KÖHLERNÄCHTE has become an authentic, intimate and at times highly amusing portrait of the various protagonists. There is politically incorrect drinking, smoking and swearing. At the same time, the respectful way the people treat each other is impressive, as is the way they deal with the local resource of wood, with fire and smoke in the hard everyday life of a charcoal burner.
